How our characters Came Alive
Hi, I'm Tawsha, one of the team members here at Hochatown Mysteries.
I absolutely can't wait for you to meet the characters I’ve created for our mysteries—each and every one of them has such a unique story to tell. Growing up right here in McCurtain County, I’ve been surrounded by a wealth of fascinating people, local lore, and legendary tall tales.
Which, come to find out, they weren't tall tales at all, but true in fact. But to tell anyone that with a straight face, trust me, they never believe me!
These characters were real people pulled straight from the 1918 headlines of the Broken Bow News, found in the 1930s McCurtain Gazette archives, or discovered right in my own family tree, they represent the real people who once lived here. They called this beautiful place in southeast Oklahoma home—raised their families here, worked the land, loved, found heartbreak, and struggled. Through it all—just like one of my characters, Hess, says, "we have true Oklahoma grit to pull us through." They did and they survived through many hardships throughout the years.
Some of the people I researched were silly and eccentric as could be. Some were a bit more serious, and dangerous, but every single one of them left behind a history that naturally lends itself to a great mystery, and a whole lot of mischief.
